New details in the investigation into the attack on Paul Pelosi were reported by NBC News, but they immediately withdrew the report as soon as they were published.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was reported to have called the police after a deranged man broke into his house and was looking for his wife.
The front door was open. He did not declare an emergency or leave his home, instead walking several feet back towards the attacker and away from the police.
NBC reported new details re: Pelosi attack:

It is not known whether Pelosi was injured when he answered the door or if he was impaired by it.
According to court documents obtained by NBC, David DePape calmly greeted the police when they asked what was going on. DePape fractured Pelosi's skull when he struck her in the head with a hammer.
An editor's note was appended to the Today Show website after it was deleted from it.
The piece did not meet reporting standards and should not have aired.

Several prominent social-media users noticed the strange new details NBC had reported. The Daily Mail combined NBC's reporting and cast it in a conspiratorial light.
The San Francisco police officers were unaware that they had been called to the speaker's house.
Pelosi went to the hospital and underwent surgery for a fractured skull.
