Even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists, we have had a massive drop in revenue. It was extremely messed up. Free speech is being destroyed in America.

Corporations are very sensitive to brand image and will flee at the first sight of any negative association. Corporations are interested in making money. Their function is the first thing.

Musk isn't doing anything to help the situation. His behavior is the root of his problems.

Musk has provided personal customer support for right-wing troll and shared a far-right conspiracy theory that the person who broke into Nancy Pelosi's house was a gay prostitute. The fans of Musk have caused a rise in racial slurs being posted on the platform.

With the pace of these scandals and the likelihood that they'll only get worse, many brands have decided to stop advertising on social media.

This explains why Musk is trying to make money from his followers. According to a new report from the New York Times, he pushed hard on the idea of paying $8 per month for a verified account on the social network. The addition of a paywall for certain videos is being considered by Musk.

A new feature being floated by Musk is allowing users to pay to send messages to celebrities and high-profile users. The feature would be opt-in and the messages wouldn't be sent to people who didn't want them to. The payments would be taken into account by the social network.

It is not clear if any of these ideas will work for Musk. Even if some of these plans are a success, it's not likely that any of them will generate enough revenue to help Musk make a profit. In a worst-case scenario, a combination of a subscription and Musk's other plans could push users away from the platform and cause brands to leave.

Without its users and advertisers, it wouldn't exist. Even more L's would be posted by Musk.
