Musk to gut Twitter infrastructure, cut costs by $1B annually

In order to make up for the lost revenue, Musk has ordered staff to cut infrastructure costs by up to $3 million a day. The "Deep Cuts Plan" is part of Musk's effort to turn the company's fortunes around.

Musk said on Friday that he thinks the ad revenue loss is due to the Deep Cuts plan. A number of major brands have stopped advertising on the social networking site. The brands told the news agency that they would continue to evaluate the situation at the micro-blogging site.

There has been a drop in revenue due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation, and we did everything we could to appease the activists. It was extremely messed up. Free speech is being destroyed in America.

Advertisers are hesitant about advertising on the social networking site. In the past, Musk has said that he hasn't updated the policy yet. Researchers have documented a rise in hate content on the platform since Musk took over. There has been an apparent increase in adult content on the platform.

Yoel Roth, the head of safety and integrity, shared a thread detailing the efforts of the company to combat hate content. Advertisers don't seem to be as confident in the stripped down approach.

Infrastructure cuts could cause outages

The main goal of Musk's Deep Cuts Plan is to cut back on costs for server and cloud services, which could cause the platform to become unstable during peak traffic times. During elections, mass protests, acts of war, school shootings, and extreme weather events are included.

Musk doesn't care if the platform becomes unstable. A November 7 deadline for employees to identify cost-saving infrastructure cuts has been set by Musk according to staff sources.

Employees who are left to work with Musk are expected to be in the office for long hours until the goals of the Deep Cuts Plan are achieved.

Ben Collins, a reporter for NBC News, has said that those who were spared through Musk's layoffs seem to be happy.

Collins said he talked to a couple of employees who were told they no longer work there. People are excited to get laid off in my life.
