There have been layoffs on the social networking site.

The layoffs come a week after Musk bought the company.

After firing top executives, Musk has now moved to lay off half of the global workforce.

Why Is Elon Musk Starting Mass Layoffs?

There were reports this week that Musk would cut 75% of his staff, but the new CEO of the micro-blogging site denied the reports. About half of the company's employees would be fired, according to a message that was sent on Wednesday.

On Thursday, an employee asked if the "Red Wedding" had begun, and minutes later, an email was sent to all of its employees telling them that layoffs would begin Friday.

The email said that they would be reducing their global workforce on Friday.

Workers would find out via their personal emails if they were laid off. They would get an email through their work accounts if they were still employed.

"This is an incredibly challenging experience to go through, whether or not you are impacted," the company email said.

One employee affected by the layoffs said it was a break-up by text.

Ahead of the 9 a.m., the removal started. Email Friday. Many people assumed they were on the cut list when they were locked out of their work accounts.

According to employees and messages seen by Insider, more than 1000 people had lost their jobs at the micro-blogging site.

A group of people at the company's office had drinks on Thursday after employees said goodbye on a messaging service.

The company may have followed the WARN Act. Employers are required to give 60 days' notice before a mass layoffs.

The Employment Development Department in California did not receive the notice from Musk.

A class action lawsuit was filed by an employee who claimed to have been fired.

Some people don't mind seeing the back of the place. A laid off worker told Insider that he was relieved.

If they are about to start families, others are concerned about the payments.

Some employees I'm hearing from at Twitter are desperate to get laid off and get severance. The work culture there is beyond toxic.

Some are afraid to push back against Elon because they don't want to risk getting fired for cause — disagreeing with Elon — and losing severance.

It is clear that it will be a different culture for those who stay. The "days of rest" were removed from the calendars. An employee took a picture of herself sleeping at work.
