Kentucky coach John Calipari said he would be "stunned" if preseason All-American Oscar Tshibabwe is able to play in the team's season opener against Howard.
Tshiebwe might miss more time after the game because he had a minor procedure in October.
After his team's exhibition win over Kentucky State, Calipari said he would be shocked if he played Monday. I'd be surprised if he played Friday.
Kentucky is not where it needs to be and might not live up to its top-five preseason ranking in the Associated Press poll, according to a video posted this week by John Calipari. In November and December, he said the Cats might have a rough time.
The starting point guard may not play in the first game as he recuperates from a knee injury. Kentucky is expected to compete for a national championship with the addition of five-star recruits, including Chris Livingston.
No official from the school has supported Tshiebwe's claim that he would play in the opener. At Big Blue Madness, the men's and women's basketball team's midnight madness event, Tshiebwe needed assistance as he walked up and down the stairs. He was using crutches.
Tshiebwe, who won the Wooden Award last season after averaging 17.4PPG and 15.2RPG, could become the second player in history to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
He will have to clear himself before he allows him to return.
The Kentucky vs Michigan State game will take place on November 15th.
"He's just not normal, it's a pain threshold and he's 888-609- 888-609- 888-609- 888-609- 888-609- He probably wouldn't be allowed to play Monday. He needs a bit more time. I will have to work him out if he wants to play. He would play 10 or 15 minutes just to get his legs under him.
