Twitter’s mass layoffs have begun

The new management will begin layoffs on Friday according to an internal memo. According to the most recent report, half of the employees will lose their jobs.

All employees received an email on Thursday stating that they will be informed of their employment status on Friday. Emails will be sent with the subject line "Your Role atTwitter." If an employee keeps their job, they will be notified via email, if they are let go.

All badges will be suspended and our offices will be temporarily closed in order to make sure the safety of our employees and our systems. Please return to your home if you are in an office.

The email was impersonal.

As staff wait to learn their fate tomorrow, they have been flooding an internal channel with blue heart emojis, according to a post from a staff member.

Engineers have been asked to print out the code that they have written in the last 30 to 60 days in order to evaluate their productivity. Engineers from the company were brought in to look at the code.

It is not known what divisions of the company will be affected. It is likely that Musk will get rid of the PR team at the social media company.

In order to take on $13 billion in debt from banks, the company will have to pay $1 billion a year in interest.

The newsletter service will be shut down by the end of the year according to a report. The acquisition of Revue was made in January of 2020. According to the report, Notes, a longform posting feature, is on hold.

After taking over last week, Musk immediately fired four executives: CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, General Counsel Sean Edgett and Head of Legal Policy, Trust and Safety. The Chief Consumer Officer and Chief of People and Diversity resigned.
