The woman who accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her testified in court this week that she once had a relationship with actor Mel Gibson.
Los Angeles County prosecutors have charged Weinstein with 11 counts of sexual assault stemming from allegations by five different women who accused the one-time producer of abusing them.
After an East Coast trial, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in a New York prison, but will face an additional life sentence on the West Coast. He denied the charges against him.
All five women are expected to testify against Weinstein, as well as four "prior bad acts witnesses," whose testimony is not directly related to the criminal charges but can be considered by the jury.
The woman who was one of the key accusers took the stand. According to the trial pool report, the woman testified that she was alone in a hotel room with Weinstein because she was a massage therapist.
She said that Weinstein stopped the massage after 40 minutes. She went to the bathroom after Weinstein masturbated in the nude. She told him his behavior was not appropriate.
She testified that he asked how big his cock was.
She said he felt her chest under her bra after pushing her up against a wall. She said that Weinstein kept touching her and masturbating. He tried to downplay the incident, according to the pool report.
She kept the assault to herself because she was afraid it would affect her career and access to clients. She revealed the attack to an unlikely person.
The actress said she was giving a massage to the actor when he mentioned that he was working on a movie with Weinstein. She started to wonder how Weinstein could want to work with him. She told him about the assault when he inquired about her reaction.
She said that he was the first person that she finally talked to about what happened. I did not want to get into all the details of the assault. I was humiliated and embarrassment.
"Do you want to call the police?" she asked. She testified that he suggested she talk to one of his friends.
The representative did not reply to the request for comment.
Weinstein's defense lawyer said he would call on the actor's antisemitic history if he took the stand.
During cross-examination on Thursday, Weinstein's attorney Mark Werksman pushed Jane Doe 3 to explain why she returned to massage Weinstein multiple times after the initial incident and entered into discussions with his publisher about a nude massage book.
The US economy has an 8% inflation rate. You did not want to kill the book deal and tell Weinstein to stop giving massages.
Between 2016 and 2020 there were meetings with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.
She didn't want to come forward because of that. This is not good.
