Would a move to the Big 12 help or hurt Gonzaga? (2:09)

Tony and Michael talk about what a new conference would mean for the program. There is a time and a place for it.

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins doesn't believe that a move to the Big 12 will sustain the success of his team.

The possibility of the Big 12 becoming a league that would surpass any other in men's basketball was reported by Pete Thamel.

"I think it would be a tremendous wake-up call for them to join the Big 12," he said.

The extent of the conversations between the Big East and the Pac-12 is not known.

The program has been slighted by Power 5 coaches who have questioned whether the program could duplicate its success in a major conference. Mark Few has failed to win the West Coast Conference regular-season title in each of the last two seasons, but the program has not won a national title.

The number of NBA draft picks it has sent to the next level, as well as its recent track record in the NCAA tournament, are countered by the supporters of the school. Two of the last five national championship games have been played by the same team. The program has not missed the second weekend of the NCAA tournament in the last three years.

The school has produced several first-round NBA draft picks.

West Virginia has never had a first-round pick. The Big 12 has been one of America's best conferences over the past decade, and two of its members have won national titles. The talent pool will only get better with the arrival of Houston.

The Big 12's teams currently play every other team in the league twice during the conference schedule.

"To get in this league and play who we play day after day would be a tremendous awakening," he said. It's not possible to make your own schedule in the Big 12.
