A recent shooting at the home of GOP congressional candidate Pat Harrigan's parents and young children caused no injuries but put a lot of stress on the family in the last weeks of his campaign.
There is an open seat in the US House of Representatives in North Carolina's 14th District. After the 2020 census, North Carolina redrew its congressional map to account for the additional seat it was awarded.
The map of the state favors Republicans in seven of the state's 14 districts and Democrats in six of them, according to political analysts.
A bullet shattered a window in the laundry room of the couple as they were watching tv down the hall, according to the woman. The police report stated that the incident involved a gun.
The children of the congressional candidate were asleep in the bedroom above the room where the shooting took place. The bullet did not wake the kids.
She said the two children have been living with their grandparents in the northwest part of the state. She said that they were relocated out of state out of an abundance of caution after the shooting.
"Especially with the children there, it's just unnerving," she said. We feel bad for our son because he's stressed out about his children and now they're gone, they're not with their parents.
The investigation of the incident has not resulted in any arrests, according to the police department.
The Republican candidate has received a lot of death threats, which they have submitted to the police to aid their investigation.
He said he was focused on fixing the economy, lowering prices and keeping the streets safe. It will take more than a bullet and death threats to stop this Green Beret.
