What does latest injury news mean for Michael Thomas, Saints? (0:42)

Michael Thomas was put on the IR due to a toe injury. There is a time and a place.

4:11 PM ET

The New Orleans Saints placed wide receiver Michael Thomas on injured reserve because of a toe injury.

The team thought the toe had healed the way it should, but Dennis Allen said that Thomas will have surgery.

Allen didn't have a timetable for Thomas' return, but he doesn't think he'll be able to come back this year. He said that Thomas did everything he could to rehabilitate the injured toe without having to have surgery.

Since his extension went into effect in 2020, Thomas has missed most of the seasons.

After Thomas missed more than half of 2020 and all of 2021 because of ankle surgery, the Saints were hoping that he would return to his All-Pro form of 2019.

Thomas played in just three games this season and caught 16 passes for 171 yards and three touchdown.

The Saints had missed Thomas. Thomas tried to rehabilitate the injury in order to return this season and not have surgery.
