Level has had hardware support for Thread for a long time and will soon be updating to support Matter over Thread. You enjoy seeing it.
The Bolt, Lock, Lock Touch, and the just-reviewed Lock Plus with Home Key are smart locks that fit inside your existing deadbolt. Only Apple Home and Ring could be used for smart home integration and out-of- home control. Level's locks have been pretty niche.
They won't stay the same. According to Ken Goto, the Level Locks are all hardware compatible with Matter and will be upgraded to support Matter over Thread. Goto didn't give a time frame for when this update would be released.
Level will no longer be limited to Apple Home and Ring. They will work with any Matter compatible smart home controller if you have a Thread border routers. This is what Matter was supposed to do for the smart home, and Level is taking advantage of it. We haven't seen how Matter does outside of controlled demos.
There are three companies that have announced Thread-over-Matter smart locks. Yale is bringing Thread over Matter to its Assure 2 locks via interchangeable networking modules. They are reporting from Matter's official launch in Amsterdam this week, and have probably seen things I couldn't imagine.
A common language for smart home devices to communicate in your home without relying on a cloud connection is provided by Matter. At launch, it will include smart sensors, smart lighting, smart plugs and switches, smart thermostats, connected locks, and media devices.
If you buy a smart home device that has the Matter logo on it, you should be able to use it with any Matter compatible device and platform. Devices compatible with matter should be available by the end of the year.
We expect to see updates on the smart home platforms that are signed on to support Matter over the next few months.
