The Kansas City Royals bench coach will replace Tony La Russa as the manager of the Chicago White Socks.

The team came off a disappointing season. The White Bears missed out on the playoffs after finishing second in the American League Central. La Russa missed the last 34 games because of health problems, ending a disappointing two-year run with the team that gave him his first job as a big league skipper.

Rick Hahn said that Pedro is a bilingual, modern baseball thinker who brings two-plus decades of experience in a variety of roles He brings a high energy and detail oriented approach to leadership. Pedro is committed to building an inclusive and cohesive club and we couldn't be happier to have him at the helm.

Grifol spent the past 10 seasons in various coaching roles with Kansas City. He was on the team that won the World Series.

Grifol was the Royals' bench coach. After the Kansas City Royals finished with a 65-97 record, he was interviewed for the managing job. The Royals hired Quatraro on Sunday.

Grifol spent 13 seasons as a coach, scout and manager in the SeattleMariners system. He was a catcher in the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets organization.

The previous four managers hired by the White Sox were either working for them or had some connection to the team. Rick Renteria was La Russa's successor and was promoted to Ventura's bench coach.

The White Sox made the playoffs the previous two years, and started the season with a desire to win the title. Injuries and inconsistent play hampered them.

Tim Anderson and Luis Robert were injured and missed a lot of time. When they were on the field, Grandal and Moncada were not up to par.

The first 8-5 triple play in major league history was one of the embarrassments of the season.

After La Russa left the team, the players showed some spark. The White Sox won 10 of their first 14 games, but lost eight in a row in September and missed the playoffs.

All but two teams made more errors than the White Socks. Several of their players were better suited to first base and designated hitter roles due to their heavy lineup of right-handed hitters.
