No 10 said that Sunak was too busy preparing for the budget to attend the event.

During Prime Minister's Questions, he said he would attend the COP 27 next week to deliver on Glasgow's legacy of building a secure, clean and sustainable future.

Boris Johnson said on Tuesday that he would attend the 27th Congress of the United Nations.

The UK hosted last year'sCOP in Glasgow and it was chaired by Mr. Sharma.

"After an embarrassing mis-step on the world stage, I was happy to see a U-turn," Lucas said.

He was "delighted" that the prime minister would now be going after he said he was "disappointed" that Mr Sunak wouldn't be attending.

The UN event will feature many world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and France'sEmmanuelMacron.

The First Minister of Scotland will also be at the event.

The UK's commitment to tackle the climate crisis was questioned by a number of countries.

The Egyptian government is not happy with the outcome of the meeting. It looked as if the UK was washing their hands of leadership according to the ambassador to the UN.

Climate change is more serious than any other issue, according to Mohammed Nasheed, speaker of the parliament.

The outcome of the UN climate conference in Egypt isn't likely to be changed by the attendance of Rishi Sunak.

The negotiations are done by the army of diplomats and civil servants who are already in Egypt.

The signal that the prime minister acknowledges the importance of the conference will be welcomed.

The UN chief told me that leaders have an important role to play.

He says that they help "galvanise" the talks.

Mr Sunak is involved in ceremonial activities. He will hand over responsibility for the process to the Egyptian government.

Even though he is a champion of environmental causes, King Charles won't be going to Glasgow to speak.

No 10 said there was a unanimous agreement that the King wouldn't be attending.

Climate summits are designed to help governments agree on ways to limit global warming.
