I have never explicitly written a post about the best and worst marketing videos the airline industry has ever seen.

The Southwest Airlines shuffle…

Southwest Airlines has always been known for being different than other airlines. The Southwest Airlines video "Just Plane Fun" is the most accurate depiction of that.

Employees from all departments are shown singing and dancing in a video. The man who is an airline industry legend is also featured.

The video was shown to new Southwest Airlines employees during training to give them a sense of what the company culture was like. I don't know if that's still the case, but it should be.

You should see the Southwest Shuffle if you haven't already. Chances are that the lyrics will stay in your head for the rest of the day, because it's impressively well done, amusing, and cringeworthy.

How many times have I watched this video? I like to decide which department is the most awkward in the video because I have a different conclusion every time. I decided to go with the systems team based on what I saw today. Revenue management and pilots have some swagger.

This concept was inspired by the Chicago Bears

Southwest Airlines did a great job with this video, but it was based on the Chicago Bears Super Bowl Shuffle in 1985. Southwest beat them one-upped them.

Bottom line

The Southwest Airlines Shuffle was released in 1996. It is a great representation of how Southwest is more fun than other airlines. This might even be catchier than the Carnival Cruise Line ad from the 1990s, or the recent "I Want to Fly The World" song by Turkish Airlines.

Is anyone else a fan of the southwest shuffle? Do you like the department?
