The unionized Apple Store in Maryland filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board after being excluded from some benefits that Apple recently introduced for non- union workers.

In October, Apple announced plans to give employees additional funds for education and new health care options in some states, but workers at the store were denied the benefits. The employees were told that they needed to negotiate with Apple.

The first Apple retail location to unionize was in Towson, and Apple's head of retail warned employees about future negotiation issues before they formed a union. O'Brien said in May that they have a relationship that is open and collaborative. If a store is represented by a union, it could change in a big way.

It is not unique to Apple that they restrict benefits from unions. Starbucks has denied benefits to stores that have unionized.

The complaint against Apple was brought by the International Association of Machinists and Aeronautical Workers union. Two stores in the US and one in Scotland have unionized so far.
