We will be waiting a little while longer for Apple to introduce its custom 5G modem, as Apple will once again rely on the modems from Qualcomm.

In 2021, it was reported that Apple and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. were working on a 5G modem, and that it would be used in the next generation of mobile devices.

It is not a secret that Apple is working on its own modems after buying the majority of Intel's modem business. It is not surprising that Apple would want to make its own version of one of the most important pieces of a mobile device.

According to reports, Apple has run into some problems. The modem chip development may have failed, and Apple's prototypes have been overheating over the past year or so, according to a report by Mark Gurman. Whatever is going on behind the scenes, it all means that Qualcomm gets to be a big supplier for another set of iPhones, which could be a good thing after what might be a rough holiday season.

According to the Wednesday call, which could point to Apple's own modems appearing as late as the 20th century, Qualcomm is assuming "minimal contribution from Apple product revenues in fiscal 25."
