Less than a day after trading for Chubb, the Dolphins expect to sign him to a long-term deal.

The Dolphins did not part ways with a first-round pick for a one-year rental, despite the fact that the player is in the final year of his contract.

When you do a deal like that for a player, you always want to have something done, and we anticipate having something finished up here soon.

The former Pro Bowler has recorded 5.5 sacks this season and is third in the league with a 25.8% pass rush win rate.

Chubb has been injured over the past three seasons. He has missed 24 out of 49 possible games because of injuries. The Dolphins did extensive research into his injury history and work ethic and found no reason to be concerned.

"If you look at some of the other guys that are premium pass-rushers, historically there's been guys that have hadACLs and multipleACL injuries, too, as well." He is a tough child. He's in good shape.

Injuries occur. It was a risk that we were willing to take because of how he plays and the things we do.

According to Spotrac, Chubb's market value is $90.5 million over four years, but the Dolphins have $5.1 million in salary-cap space but restructured Baker's contract in an effort to create some flexibility.

Over the next two seasons, the Dolphins will have to make decisions on several key players, such as Christian Wilkins and Andrew Van Ginkel, while also issuing $17 million or more to four players not including Chubb. The trade wasn't short-sighted and they were considering their future financial flexibility.

When you do these types of deals, you have to keep an eye on the future. Bradley is a good player for us, but we also feel good about the others. You always have to look for the future when you add something to that group.

The coach said that Chubb has been on his radar since he was with the 49ers.

He said that he has an affinity for edge players. It's cool to have him because he's one of those guys that can really dictate the terms of what the opposing team is able to do on offense.

Through the first eight weeks of the season, the Dolphins have looked like a playoff contender thanks to their seventh ranked offense. It has been 27 years since the Miami Dolphins last had a top 10 offense.

The move for Chubb was about adding a really good player at a premium position, and not the result of an accelerated timetable due to Tagovailoa's development in 2022, according to the two men.

It has an effect on it. I don't think we looked at it because we heard from the beginning that we were going to win a lot of games with him.

Having confidence in your quarterback makes it easier to make important decisions.

There is some clarity in being very confident in your starter.

I have seen Tua as our quarterback from the beginning. He's an amazing talent. After he had a good game, we didn't think of this as a problem. Since I've been here, we've been able to operate with that in mind with everything we've done.
