Not one, but two hurricanes formed in the Atlantic basin over the course of a few hours Wednesday morning, a rarity at any point in the year but especially toward the end of the Hurricane season in early November.

Lisa is about to make a landfall in the country.

At 8 a.m., a storm formed over the Caribbean Sea. While Hurricane Martin was in the central Atlantic Ocean.

As it nears landfall in Belize, Lisa has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, while Martin has 75 mph winds and is not expected to pose a major threat to land.

There is a life-threatening storm surge of up to 7 feet above normal tide levels expected, along with damaging winds and up to 10 inches of rain, in the area under a Hurricane warning.

The National Hurricane Center expects the storm to strengthen a bit over the next few hours before it makes a direct hit on the coast on Wednesday.

Hurricane Martin is expected to strengthen into a Category 2 storm by Thursday, but should quickly weaken over the cold waters of the north Atlantic this weekend.

The second half of the season has been more active than the first half. Hurricane Ian, which hit southwest Florida, was one of the destructive storms that hit in September. There were dire predictions for one of the most active hurricanes in history. The number of hurricanes that have formed is exactly the number expected in an average season, while the total number of hurricanes is still below average. There are 14 named storms and 3 hurricanes.

Hurricane Iota formed in November and was the strongest storm of the season. The 30th and final named storm of the season was the most ever recorded.

What To Watch For

There is an area of disturbed weather near the Greater Antilles that is expected to move over the southern Atlantic during the next week or so, where there is a chance of some slow subtropical or tropical development. There is a 20% chance that the system will develop over the next five days. November 30 is the end of the season for hurricanes.

The tropical threat is cooling off as the season nears peak.

Forecasters say there could be a big increase in the activity of hurricanes in the coming weeks.

The Florida areas are the hardest hit by the category four storm.
