The video feed from Nancy Pelosi's house was not monitored by the Capitol police.
The speaker of the house gets the most death threats, according to law enforcement.
The Pelosi property has cameras around it.
The Washington Post reported that no one was watching the video feeds outside Nancy Pelosi's home when her husband was attacked.
Several current and former law enforcement officials told The Post that if the Capitol Police were going to prevent an attack at Pelosi's house, they had the best chance of doing so. Pelosi is the subject of the most violent death threats, according to one official.
The level of threats to the house speaker is attributed to her being a woman, being second in line to the presidency, and being targeted by Republicans.
The speaker's husband, Paul Pelosi, was attacked with a hammer by suspect David DePape on Friday. DePape denied the charges on Tuesday.
According to The Post, the Capitol Police have installed cameras around the house speaker's property for more than eight years. The night of the attack, most of her security detail traveled with her to Washington, DC, and officers only partially watched the video feeds outside her home.
While there have been improvements, such as plans to hire more officers this year, the country's political climate is going to require additional layers of physical security.
Pelosi has been threatened before. According to court documents, a man in Florida called her office and said he would behead her and that he would come a long way to rattle her head with bullets.
Police say there have been more violent threats to lawmakers in the last few years. The data from the Capitol Police shows that threats to Congressional lawmakers increased by 144%.
