  • The man was in court on Tuesday.

  • He was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping.

  • The new details about how the attack happened were offered by the office of the district attorney.

Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, lay in a pool of his own blood for three minutes after he was hit in the head with a hammer during a break-in.

The suspect hit Pelosi with the hammer in front of police officers after Pelosi failed to grab the hammer away from him.

At a Tuesday court appearance, the suspect, David DePape, pleaded not guilty to several state charges including attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, as well as two felony charges from the US Justice Department.

The San Francisco Superior Court case is vulnerable to misinformation. The speaker of the house of the United States was the intended target of the attack.

The San Francisco district attorney's office asked Judge Diane Northway to hold DePape until the next hearings.

A protective order was signed by Northway prohibiting DePape from coming within 150 yards of Nancy or Paul Pelosi.

There was a graphic scene that police saw when they opened Pelosi's door.

Pelosi was able to open the door for the police after they arrived at the residence. The two struggled over the hammer in front of the officers at the doorway before the suspect killed him.

The filing stated that one officer ordered to drop the hammer. Mr. Pelosi was unable to hold on to the hammer. The person wrenched the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and lunged at him, hitting him in the head with the hammer.

According to the filing, Pelosi passed out and began to bleed from his head.

Prosecutors wrote that the officers tackled and disarmed the man. Mr. Pelosi woke up in a pool of his own blood.

Speaker Pelosi's office said in a statement last week that Paul Pelosi had surgery at San Francisco General Hospital to repair a skull fracture and other injuries.

If he is found guilty of the state attempted kidnapping charge, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and life in prison.

All allegations against him have been denied by his public defender.

Authorities claim that DePape broke into Pelosi's home last week looking for Pelosi, who was in Washington, DC, at the time of the attack.

According to the filing, the man told officers and medics at the scene that he came to have a chat with his wife. This was a suicide mission and I didn't really want to hurt him. If it costs me my life, I will not stand here and do nothing. I didn't want to Hurt him. I told him before I attacked him that he was going to get me.

DePape believed that COVID-19 was a plan hatched by the global elite and that the 2020 election would be a lie.

At Tuesday's press conference, she made it clear that she would push for him to remain in custody.

He said at the press conference that he considers him dangerous. It's more representative of the state of politics in the U.S. than the safety of San Francisco.
