Despite losing Son Heung-Min to an early head injury, Spurs fought back and equalized through Clement Lenglet in the 54th minute.

As they held on for a point that would have been enough to progress, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg struck with the last kick of the game.

Player ratings, best and worst performers, highlights and notable moments, post- match quotes, and key statistics are included.

Rapid reaction

1. Ex-Arsenal stars can't stop Spurs' Champions League run

They did their best, but it wasn't enough for Spurs to survive. Sead Kolasinac, on as a substitute, had a chance to knock Spurs out of the playoffs, but he put it wide. In the final moments of the game, Nuno Tavares, who is on loan from Spurs, fired over.

Spurs got the win they needed to reach the last 16 thanks to Clement Lenglet's 54th minute goal and a last-minute winner from Pierre-Emile Hojbjer. After pipping their fierce rivals to qualify for this competition, they survived an almighty scare to stay in it.

At times, Spurs walked a tightrope here but a night of high drama ended with the gleeful travelling supporters singing: "Are you watchingArsenal?"

2. The Conte caution/comeback conundrum

This match followed an all-too familiar pattern: slow start and fall behind, but mount a stirring second-half comeback, even though Antonio Conte wasn't able to influence it due to a one- match suspension.

In the last 12 games, Spurs have conceded the first goal nine times. Three days after coming from 2-0 down to beat Bournemouth, Spurs came back from an almost painfully passive opening 45 minutes to win at Marseille.

They had an xG of 0.05. Only three times this season have they failed to have a touch in the box in the first half of a game. They came from behind to equalise through Clement on his 50th appearance in the competition, before sitting off their opponents again and exploiting space on the counter-attack.

Spurs were too cautious early on and rode their luck in a way that suggests this high-wire act may eventually cause a fall, but for now the results leaves them in credit.

3. Son's injury scare adds to Tottenham's attacking problems

Son Heung-min was forced to leave the field in the first half after an aerial challenge with Mbemba caused him to suffer a head injury. The extent of the problem will be determined by further tests but it is possible that Son will not be able to play on Sunday.

Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison are both doubts for Sunday's game because of injuries. Son and Harry Kane's dynamic relationship is well documented but Spurs' reliance on the England captain will only be increased if the supporting cast around him is weakened.

The worst was Ryan Sessegnon.

Started in an unusual right wing-back position and struggled badly, clumsily fouling Nuno Tavares early on before switching flanks with Perisic and being hauled off at half-time.

Stellini said that he had the chance to speak with AntonioConte. He was tired because living in the crowd is not normal and he may have spent more time in the stands than on the touchline.

Son was able to celebrate after the game but we have to check on him tomorrow. We don't know if it's a concussion. He had an injury to his face and eye.
