Multiple Michigan State football players got into a fight with a UM player after the game.
Four more players have been suspended by the Spartans for their involvement in the fight. Four more people were suspended on Sunday.
Director of athletics Alan Haller and head coach Mel Tucker made the announcement that the suspensions were decided upon as university officials continued to gather and review electronic evidence of the altercation. The Big Ten conference and law enforcement are working with the university to evaluate additional facts and evidence.
According to Larry Lage of the Associated Press, a fight broke out in the Michigan Stadium tunnel after the Michigan game, and videos surfaced on social media showing multiple Spartans players pushing, punching and kicking Michigan defensive back Ja' Den McBurrows. Gemon Green was also seen on video yelling at Michigan State players.
Harbaugh said that two of his players were attacked. There was one video that I watched. There was ten-on-one. It wasn't good. There needs to be an investigation.
There was no excuse for the actions of the Michigan State players, according to Tucker. Samuel Stanley is the president of the university.
Stanley said he was sad about the incident and the behavior depicted by the football players. My apology is on behalf of Michigan State University. There is no justification for the behavior we are seeing. Rivalries can be intense, but shouldn't be violent.
Things won't get easier for Michigan State this week as the team will be short-handed in a road game against the Illinois Illini.
