Interpublic Group advised its clients to suspend all paid advertising on the social media network for at least a week following Musk's purchase of the company.

According to a person familiar with the matter, the firm is telling its clients to wait for clarity on the social network's plans for trust and safety, and to see whether Musk will be able to preventTwitter from becoming.

Some of the agencies that work for them include a pharmacy and a video game company. The companies did not reply to the requests for comment.

The current situation is unpredictable and chaotic, and bad actors and unsafe behaviors thrive in such an environment, that's according to an email that was sent to clients.

GM told CNBC that it had stopped advertising on the service to understand the direction of the platform under their new ownership.

Less than a week after Musk took over, the user experience on the micro-blogging site is changing.

According to research by the Network Contagion Research Institute and Dataminr, racist and other hate speech began to plague the social network at a higher rate than usual by the time Musk closed the deal. Bad actors on some other platforms, notably 4Chan, have encouraged fellow users to post and amplify racist epithets and other derogatory slurs, and the change has driven away several celebrity users.

Yoel is the head of safety at the company. On Monday, he wrote, "We've made measurable progress, removing more than 1,500 accounts and reducing impressions on this content to almost zero."

Musk promised last week that he would not make any major content decisions or account reinstatements before the council convenes.

While he has not yet revealed whether such a council has been established, he recently restored all functions to the account of a previously restricted user, who is the Republican candidate for secretary of state in Arizona.

Musk said in a reply to Musk that he was looking into the matter. The politician has come under fire for sharing anti-Semitic stereotypes on social media.

They did not reply to the request.
