Passengers flying from the Washington, D.C.-area's biggest international airport will be able to take the train to the city.
The Metrorail extension into Dulles International Airport is set to open in November.
Dulles is a hub for United Airlines and has seen its surrounding area transform into a major tech corridor.

All departing and arriving flyers will be able to use the underground tunnel to get onto the trains. During peak hours, expensive car services from Dulles to downtown Washington could cost as much as $60. Dulles is 28 miles away from Washington.
The extension will give the Northern Virginia suburbs six new Silver Line stations and complete the final phase of the expansion project. Dulles is one of the stations that are included.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which is close to the downtown area, only serves domestic flights. Even though BWI is considered one of the metro area's three airports, flyers can take an airport shuttle bus to get to downtown Washington. Light rail connects BWI to downtown Baltimore. The Silver Line extension will change the public transit map of the region's three big airports, giving passengers a new downtown rail option at the airport with most of the region's international and cross country flights.

The Silver Line extension into Dulles has been delayed for years. The final phase of the expansion into Dulles had been marred by years of cost overruns and criminal charges against contractors who lied about the quality of their work. A $1 million settlement was reached by the company involved in the incident.

The Washington Post reported that the agency sparred with the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission after it rejected Metro's request to return more 7000-series trains.
The commission cited safety concerns with the 7000 series, which had already led to a one-year suspension of the newer trains after one of them derailed on the Blue Line. Metro faced a train shortage as a result of the suspension. According to The Washington Post, Metro has been trying to get its fleet back.
Metro executives worried that there wouldn't be enough trains to fulfill the demand for the Silver Line extension into Dulles in time for Thanksgiving travel.
More of the newer trains were phased back by the commission and Metro. The Silver Line is still in the process of being certified.
Metro said that they are working on a short list of items with the safety commission. Before we open for passenger service, we expect to finish safety certification.
New stations were added in Fairfax County in the first phase. Metrorail entered another one of Virginia's most populous areas with the addition of additional stations in this county.
