Riddick: Bills getting 'home run threat' in Nyheim Hines (1:12)

Louis Riddick and Mike Tannenbaum talked about how the Bills can be improved. There is a time and a place for this.

The Bills added a pass-catching running back in exchange for running back Zack Moss and a sixth-round pick in the 2020 draft.

The Bills were close to signing Washington's J.D. McKissic before he decided to re-sign with the Commanders. Cook was drafted in the second round. He had a 41-yard reception in this past week's game against the Packers.

He's fifth in receiving yards since entering the NFL. The Colts benched quarterback Matt Ryan for Sam Ehlinger and the fourth-round pick has 25 catches for 188 yards.

The Bills don't have a lot of depth after wide receiver Jamison Crowder's injury. He has returned 73 punts in the National Football League. In his career, he has averaged over 11 yards per return. The Bills are returning punts at an average rate of over 10 yards per return.

Sources said before the deadline that Hines was a big fan of a potential trade for the Bills.

He signed a three-year, $18.6 million contract with the Colts in the off-season. He had career-lows in targets and catches last season. His carries went from 89 in 2020 to 56 last year.

He's playing just 30% of his offensive snaps so far this year. The running lanes on the offensive line have been non-existent. He is carrying the load with an average of 2 yard per carry.

With the Colts' offense falling apart -- the team last week benched Ryan and on Tuesday fired Brady -- the previously stated plans to involve Hines more extensively in their offense never really panned out.

Cook and Singletary lead the team in rushing yards with 327 and 71, respectively. Going forward, Singletary's role should be more focused on the ground game since he has averaged eight yards per reception this season.

The other weapons on the offense and the need for contributors on special teams made Moss expendable. The third-round pick was a healthy scratch for the game against the Chiefs and did not play against the Packers.

The Bills made a number of moves Tuesday, including the acquisition of safety Dean Marlowe from the Atlanta Falcons for a seventh-round pick in the 2020 draft.

Sean McDermott is the coach of the Bills and he was the defensive coach for the first two years of his career. Hyde suffered a season-ending neck injury in Week 2. Poyer left the game against the Packers with an injury.

The Bills released Brandin Bryant from the active roster and released Jordan Miller from the practice squad.
