A social media app that died six years ago is combined with the richest man in the world. There is another hell website.

A short-form video app similar to TikTok was put to rest six years ago after being bought by Musk. It will be a shell of what it used to be if he summons it back. There should be no rebirth of vine. It should not be returned by Musk.

It's the latest in a series of maneuvers by the "chief twit" since he took over, including firing a lot of staff, ordering employees to print out their code, and removing some employees.

Why did Twitter kill Vine?

It doesn't seem like he's bluffing, sadly. By the end of the year, Musk told engineers at the social network to start work on a new version of the video game. It is a reversal of fortune for a failed product. The decision to shut down the app devastated the creators and fans. It couldn't make enough money to stay alive and was losing popularity to other apps, which added new features at a faster rate. The app was enjoyable but not profitable.

Musk has always tried to do something. Now that Musk is in the driver's seat, engineers are looking at the code that hasn't been updated in more than five years. According to Sara Beykpour, who worked as a senior director of product management at Twitter, she was in charge of shutting down the vine app.

The code is older than 6 years. Beykpour said that some of it is more than 10. You don't want to see that. You should start over if you want to revive vine.

Musk asked his followers if they wanted to bring back vine. Almost 70% of his followers said yes.

That would be hilarious if you did that and actually competed with TikTok. Musk asked what could we do to make it better.

It's time for you to suggest a suggestion, Elon. If the app stays in the past, the memory will stay strong. A new TikTok is not needed.

At its peak, about 100 million people used it. Compare that to TikTok, which has a billion users every month, or toInstagram, which has 2 billion monthly users. Before the app officially died, most of the more famous vines were posted on YouTube, while the more successful ones went toInstagram.

If Musk is able to run a social media company, he should keep his paws off other social media sites as well. He seems to be wrong a lot of the time, even though he has more money than anyone else, and he is terrible and embarrassingly out of touch.

When he said he would give $6 billion to end world hunger, he didn't do that. He claimed in March 2020 that the US would have no new Covid-19 cases by April 2020. He said "in case you need to lose a boner fast, I'll show you a picture of Bill Gates" and he runs a company with racist and sexist environments.

Musk hasn't done anything to make people feel confident about his ability to run a single social media site.

There's still the issue of recreating the magic that was Vine, even though I believe Musk is unable to resurrect it in any positive way. No matter who recreates the app, it would not be the same as before.

It relied on an organic system to fill it's feed, but it was a great app. To be successful in the future, you have to have your community migrate back to the app we used to love. In a different era of the internet, vine existed. Donald Trump, COVID-19, and the misinformation scandals have forced social media sites to face a heavy reckoning. Six years after the death of vine, our brains are ready to respond to recommendations on apps.

The stars who made the app have moved on to other apps or stopped using the internet. Lele Pons is the star of a docuseries on her life on the internet and Rudy Mancuso is an actor on the internet. It's not possible to bring back the past when society continues to evolve. The way in which we consume media has changed. A revived vine wouldn't fill a void. TikTok can be used for short-form viral videos, as well as for reposting your TikTok videos on social media.

Beyond being a weird ego boost for a rich man and his fans, what purpose would a vine revival serve?

Harvey Dent said in The Dark Knight that you can either die a hero or become a villain.

A hero was killed by vine. It's time to let it rest.
