Report: William Jackson III Trade Between Steelers, Commanders Being Finalized

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the PittsburghSteelers are close to a deal to acquire William Jackson III from the WashingtonCommanders.

According to Jeremy Fowler, Jackson was expected to be released by Washington if there was no trade.

Jackson is in the second year of his three year contract with Washington.

A back injury has limited him to four appearances this season. The Houston product has made 16 tackles.

According to Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero, Jackson was looking to join another team with a scheme that would better fit him.

The team made a decision to move on.

Jackson was placed in the "good players with boom- or-bust tendencies" tier by Pro Football Focus. The back injury limited his availability this year and he didn't play up to expectations.

The secondary has been mixed

The opponent passer rating for Washington is the fifth-worst in the league. Fourteen touchdown passes are tied for the fourth most by the Commanders.

Jackson is joining a team that is in last place in the division. Chase Claypool was reportedly traded to the Chicago Bears.
