AirTags are a great travel invention.

United Airlines passenger has film equipment stolen

A documentary film producer had something taken out of his luggage while flying with United Airlines. The tone here is quite different, thanks to AirTags, than it would be if you were frustrated and powerless.

The employee at the airport took some film equipment from my luggage. He said that the person accidentally took his Apple AirTag that he had hid.

He asked the airline if an employee in Alaska could return his stuff. The exact location of his luggage and an Apple Maps view of the neighborhood are shown in the screenshots. He shows the location of the bag's AirTag, compared to the film equipment's AirTag.

Hey @united, one of your employees at Anchorage Airport rummaged through my luggage and took some film equipment home with them. They inadvertently took my Apple AirTag that I had hidden.

Can you tell your employee who lives at: 210 Clover Hollow Court to give me my stuff back? pic.twitter.com/duwDAm0Igi

We don't know who took his equipment. It's anyone's guess who was behind this, as checked luggage is handled by a few people. It might be possible to figure it out by looking up who owns the address, figuring out who they might be connected to, etc.

You can keep track of your stuff with Apple AirTags. Attach them to an item and you can use your Apple device to find it. These weren't intended for luggage, but they've become useful when traveling.

Is this the best ad for AirTags, or what?

It's a helpless feeling to lose luggage. The process of recovering valuables can be very difficult. That was the case until AirTags came along. We have now seen several similar cases where a traveler tracks their luggage down to a house.

If this isn't the best ad, I don't know what to think. I was surprised that thieves hadn't gotten savvier, and looked more carefully if items had AirTags before they stole them. If you steal a tag that can be tracked to where you are, you are incriminating yourself.

Bottom line

A man flying with United Airlines was able to locate film equipment that was stolen from his luggage thanks to AirTags. He asked the airline to reach out to the employee of the house they were in.

Hopefully he gets his equipment back and the person who stole it will face some punishment. More stories like this will hopefully deter luggage theft in the future.

What do you think about this?
