The Brooklyn Nets parted ways with head coach Steve Nash. The decision was made by both parties.
I wish the Nets all the success in the world and the Nash's will be rooting for our team as they turn this season around, said Nash in a message posted to hisTwitter account Tuesday.
Nash has been the coach of the Nets since 2020 and has led them to two failed playoff runs.
Nets General Manager Sean Marks thanked Steve for everything he did for the team. Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges when he became head coach, and we are grateful for his leadership, patience and humility.
Marks said it was difficult to part ways with Nash, but that the change was necessary after evaluating the beginning of the season.
Despite a roster of high-paid stars, the team has struggled both on and off the court. Rumors swirled that Nash might leave the team, which led to the push for his removal.
The team leadership was said to be unhappy with the two players. Irving wasn't offered a long term contract extension.
Nets owner Joe Tsai criticized Irving over the weekend for promoting an anti-Semitic film and book.
