Steve Nash and the Brooklyn Nets have parted ways.

Sean Marks, general manager of the Brooklyn Nets, said in a statement that Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges since he became head coach.

The Nets were thanked in a statement by Nash.

There will be an acting head coach for the game.

At the first stop in his coaching career, the Hall of Fame point guard had a 94-67 record. If Kevin Durant's shoes were one size smaller, the Nets might have made it to the NBA finals that year.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 34-year-old "reiterated his trade request and informed theNets governor that he needs to choose between the pair of general manager Sean Marks and coach Steve Nash."

The team has gotten off to a disappointing start, despite the fact that the head coach was retained. The easiest way to change something is to fire the head coach.

Fans are left wondering if the battle has already been lost in Brooklyn.

The Nets have never been too far away from their next crisis since they signed two superstars.

The culture that made the organization attractive for KD and Irving in the first place was established by Kenny Atkinson, who was fired midway through the season.

The effects of which are still being felt are the sacrifice Marks made to acquire James Harden.

Irving decided not to get the vaccine in time for the upcoming season. Harden was unhappy with Irving being out of the lineup, so he left Brooklyn.

The Celtics swept the Nets in the first round of the playoffs in 2022, showing how far the Nets had to go to win a title. They had to deal with constant speculation as they tried to recover from that disappointment.

It only took two weeks before they were dealing with another problem created by Irving, after everybody tried to put up a united front.

The 30-year-old, who in September reposted a video from Alex Jones about a conspiracy theory tied to the New World Order, shared a link to a movie about black people. The film and book use antisemitic themes.

Joe Tsai, the majority governor of the Nets, spoke about the situation on October 28 and said he was disappointed that Kyrie appeared to support a film based on a book full of antisemitic misinformation.

Joe Tsai @joetsai1999

I’m disappointed that Kyrie appears to support a film based on a book full of anti-semitic disinformation. I want to sit down and make sure he understands this is hurtful to all of us, and as a man of faith, it is wrong to promote hate based on race, ethnicity or religion.

Irving said that the 'Anti-Semitic' label that is being pushed on him is not justified and does not reflect reality.

Hélà @KyrieIrving

I am an OMNIST and I meant no disrespect to anyone’s religious beliefs. The “Anti-Semitic” label that is being pushed on me is not justified and does not reflect the reality or truth I live in everyday. I embrace and want to learn from all walks of life and religions.

After the Pacers game, Irving had a tense exchange with Friedell, who asked him about the Alex Jones video.

He told reporters that he believed the conspiracy theorist was speaking the truth about the "secret societies in America of occults."

He said he wouldn't stand down on what he believes in.

Irving and the Nets reached a point of no return according to some.

Alec Sturm @Alec_Sturm

Well, that was quite the press conference. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kyrie is done with the Nets or maybe even the league.

bomani @bomani_jones

nets might as well start burning it down today. waive — yes — kyrie, trade durant and go from there. there is zero cause for optimism, and it’s not like this experiment is making them money. it’s a wrap.

There is no reason to believe that things will improve from here for Brooklyn.

A new head coach can only do so much to compensate for the fact that the Nets don't have a lot of good defenders.

Ben Simmons is a shell of the player who was a three-time All-Star with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The guard is averaging over six points, seven assists, and six Rebounds per game. He is not performing like a first-team All-Defensive player because of his limited range on offense.

So far, all of the worst fears about the Nets have been proven correct. They're a top- heavy roster without the necessary depth to be an elite team, and the troubling actions of players like Irving outside of games will inevitably create further tension on the court.

If recent history is any indication, the chances of a coach with more experience on the sideline than Nash producing a different result are slim.
