When he read about the auction of parts of the A380, the idea came to him.

AvGeek felt that the bar from the business class cabin was something that should be on display, even though the aircraft manufacturer had a lot of items on sale.

He said it was just the history of the bar. He had a chance to view a similar bar on a previous trip aboard the carrier. Ownership of a piece of the superjumbo seemed to be a good investment because of what appears to be a finite future for the aircraft.

He thought he wouldn't have a chance at winning. The opening bid would be equivalent to about $20,000.

He said it was going to go for a long time.

The shock that he won has given way to in-depth planning: How to get it to the U.S., and how it will figure into an eventual home rental that is sure to be at the top of the market.

A winning bid

When bidding for the Emirates bar, he began to feel a bit of hope, even though he had little expectation of winning. Entry bids were lowered by 5,000 euro by the auctioneer.

He said that nobody was bidding.

It dropped to 10,000 euros, which was good for him.

He said that he had begun to bid a bit. As the number approached 15,000, the bids began to climb, but quickly stopped.

He asked if he could just try 15,100. I was already remorseful.

The gavel was banged, and the auctioneer said something in French. He heard his name, then.

He wondered what had happened. I don't know how I'm going to get this thing to the US.

Future plans for the bar

His costs may double by the time he gets the bar shipped to the U.S., a process he expects to take months, as his winning bid has sunk in.

It seems like a personal victory for him, but he may be able to enjoy it one day.

He's going to lease out the property in Palm Springs for a short period of time. This will be a big part of the marketing appeal. We'll be able to rent our place thanks to this.

Someday, you might be able to find a rental property that will allow you to enjoy a drink or two at a bar that used to serve customers at 30,000 feet.

It is a chance to hang out at the bar for a while.

If you want to relive a past travel highlight, or if you want to take a trip in business class, it would be a great stay.

Buyer's remorse fading

The buyer's remorse is starting to wear off as he negotiates the complicated shipping process for his big-ticket purchase. He said that the bar was on a plane that flew around the world. I like it very much.

We will keep an eye out for that future home rental listing once it arrives, as he has promised to share photos once it arrives.

He said there were more aviation nerds than him.
