Lewis Hamilton & Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso questioned the value of some of his titles.

When you've only had to fight with your teammate, a championship has less value, according to the Spaniard.

Hamilton posted a picture of himself and Alonso on top of a podium in 2007, when they were McLaren team-mates.

The seven-time champion put a thumbs up symbol on his picture.

Alonso tried to reduce the impact of his comments with a post on the social networking site.

All the titles are well deserved and inspiring. Our current time is comparable to each other.

It's time to stop searching for headlines. Let's have a good time with them.

In 2007, Hamilton made his debut in F1 and he and Alonso fought each other. Both lost by a single point.

At the end of the season, Hamilton and Alonso were tied on points and both had four wins, but Hamilton was declared the champion because he had more second place finishes.

Hamilton responded to the social media reaction to Alonso's interview, in which he compared his own two world titles in 2005 and 2006 with those of Max Verstappen this year and last, against Hamilton's record- equalling seven.

Max was able to win the world title at some point this year, according to Alonso. It was not the same last year. I think he is a worthy champion.

I have admiration for Lewis. When you win seven world titles, you only have to fight with your teammate.

If you have less titles but have to compete against better drivers, the championship has less value.

I had a good start to the year in 2005 and 2006. I was able to close the gap even though others had a better car.

I didn't have to fight with my teammate to get the title. I didn't see Max fight either of the guys.

Hamilton and his team-mates fought with each other to become champion five times in a row. I don't think that's the same.

Some of the titles won by Hamilton and Schumacher are questionable interpretations of what Alonso said.

In 2001, 2002, and 2004, the German driver had only his team-mate to beat, but in 2003 he had a close fight with McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen.

The Ferrari was the quicker car for the majority of the two seasons in which Mercedes were unbeatable.

Sebastian Vettel's title campaign was undermined by mistakes from both driver and team, as well as problems with reliability and losing the development war late in the year, only for him to lead the championship for most of the two years.
