CNN reported that a source who had been briefed on the assault said that the suspect broke into Pelosi's home and demanded to know where she was.

The man who broke into Pelosi's home shouted "Where is Nancy?" at Pelosi's husband. Speaker Pelosi was in DC at the time.

When police arrived at the scene, the attacker told them he was waiting for Nancy and was trying to tie up Paul Pelosi.

Police arrested DePape after he struck Pelosi in the head with a hammer. According to CNN, he has been charged with attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, and a variety of other crimes.

Pelosi had surgery for a skull injury. Speaker Pelosi said in a statement on Saturday that Paul's condition "continues to improve."

The speaker said that a violent man broke into the house and attacked her husband.
