At a panel on Saturday, Ryan Murphy and Evan Peters talked about their work on the show.
According to Variety, Peters prepared for the role of Jeffrey Dahmer by wearing lead weights and shoe lifts.
Peters said he mimicked Dahmer's physical appearance until it became second nature.
Evan Peters wore lead weights on his arms for almost a year in order to prepare for Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
Ryan Murphy, Peters, and other cast members talked about the show during a panel on Saturday. Murphy talked about how hard Peters went to embody the serial killer in the series.
Peters spent four months of preparation and six months of filming to play Dahmer. Peters wore lead weights around his arms to mimic Dahmer's physical appearance.
The man has a straight back. Peters said that he put weights on his arms to see what it felt like when he didn't move his arms. I had a cigarette in my hand at all times and I wore the character shoes with lifts.
According to Variety, Peters worked with a dialect coach to understand Dahmer's mannerisms as if they were second nature.
Peters said that he watched a lot of footage and worked with a dialect coach to get down his voice for the film. He had a dialect and it was distinct. I created a 45 minute audio composite which was very useful.
Peters said he listened to the audio every day to get into Dahmer's mind.
"It was an extensive search, trying to find private moments, times where he didn't seem self conscious, so you could get a glimpse into how he behaved prior to these interviews and being in prison," Peters said.
The Jeffrey Dahmer story is the subject of a 10-episode mini-series. Law enforcement initially failed to investigate Dahmer after neighbors reported suspicious activity, according to the series.
The cast includes some famous people.
Murphy addressed the controversy during a panel appearance on Thursday. Murphy denied that he never contacted the families before the show aired.
Murphy was accused of retraumatizing the family with the content.
Murphy said that he would be happy to pay for a memorial for the victims in Milwaukee. The attorney who represented eight of the victims' families called out Murphy for not sharing the profits of his show with the families.
