Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was attacked with a hammer by an individual on Friday.

Pelosi's spokesman said that the elderly man went through a successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and other injuries.

At the time of the incident, the House Speaker was in Washington, D.C.

While people can have heated discussions about politics, violence has to end, according to Sen. Rick Scott.

I think it is disgusting. Scott called the violence horrible. It has to stop.

The suspect in the attack on Paul Pelosi was identified as David DePape.

He yelled, "Where is Nancy, where is Nancy?" before attacking her husband, according to a source.

Speaker Pelosi has been villainized and faced threats for a long time, and it is clear that the "vicious attack" was meant for her, according to Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D- Minn.

It is important for people to realize that this is not the first time that violence has been committed in our political system.

Even if they are not in line for the presidency, members of Congress can still get protection even if they don't.

Speaker Pelosi said in a statement Saturday that she was "heartbroken" and "traumatized" by the attack, but her husband's condition continued to improve.

She said that the prayers and warm wishes from the Congress are helping Paul make progress with his recovery.

Police said that DePape is being charged with attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse and other crimes.

The charges will be brought forward on Monday and DePape will be in court on Tuesday.
