According to reports, the New Orleans Saints want a good deal for the five-time Pro Bowler.
According to Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Saints want a haul that's at least as good as the one the Carolina panthers got for Christian McCaffrey. The 49ers traded a second-, third- and fourth-round picks in the next two drafts, and a fifth-round pick in the next two drafts, to the Broncos in exchange for McCaffrey.
His base salary of $1 million makes him very tradeable. A team that acquires Kamara will only have to pay the remainder of his base salary for this season and then have him on a series of one-year contracts.
A base salary of $9.4 million will be paid in 2023, followed by $10.2 million in 2024 and then $22.4 million in 2025. It is almost certain that the Saints don't want to pay a running back more than $22 million in a season.
Despite dealing with a rib injury, the man has looked spry in the early years of the new century. His yards per carry is back in line with his career average after he added 191 receiving yards in five games.
With the 49ers and New York Jets already trading for running backs, it's not clear if there will be a strong market before the deadline. The Los Angeles Rams have made Cam Akers available in trade talks for weeks without getting much traction, and the McCaffrey trade is an outlier.
