Football can change very quickly.
A couple of days ago, Jesse Marsch was complaining about how sick he was of losing after his team had dropped into the bottom half of the table.
He was celebrating one of the most famous wins of his career just hours after he made that comment, as he watched his team move out of the bottom three.
Marsch said it was important to stop the bleeding. There is music in the dressing room. This is something we have to do.
We were more waiting to lose than pushing to win and I think the best part was that you could see the resolve in the players.
The mentality to stay in the match and see if we could find a way to get three points was strong.
Marsch was well supported in the summer to put together a side that could push on.
They started the campaign with two wins in their first three games, but the drop in form after that has alarmed.
The recent run of defeats meant the pressure was on Marsch but, in fairness, they have not always gotten the results their performances have deserved.
They ranked second for expected goals away from home and first for the most tackles, and all that came together on Saturday night as they took their chances as well as rarely allowing a player in possession to have time on the ball.
Marsch was happy for the team. I have faith in them. I tell them that a lot. They have done that after I challenged them to get better.
This was an important time for our people and the focus was on them.
One of the best teams in the world was our opponent. It's a big deal to get three points.
Marsch is adamant that he never lost the faith of his players.
Injuries to key players have meant that the American coach has had to put his faith in young players.
Those who came in have repaid their manager's faith in abundance.
Marsch said that they have a good young core. There is a group of 18-21 that is very strong.
There is a good balance in our group. We should not have been in this position. We've been playing well, but we haven't gotten any points.
"This is the best present I can get from anything, and it's my 21st birthday," he said. I don't know what to say right now.
It can happen in every game, that's what we have to believe in. This is a good present for my birthday.
The key is to make sure this isn't a one-off, but it's difficult to do with third- and second-place Spurs and Manchester City coming up.
They will look to approach those games the same as they did this one, but what has changed since then?
I changed everything this week but I don't remember what worked for next week. Marsch said something else.
It won't be long before they look up the table, rather than down, if the boss can pin down exactly what was done differently.
