Ledecky is having a great time in her first competitive event of the season at the swimming world cup
At the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, Ledecky set a world record in the 1,500 meter freestyle.
Ledecky said that he knew the record was within reach because of the things he had done in training. I was locked into the pace.
The 10-time Olympic medalist, who doesn't compete in short-course events very often, finished in 15:08. 24 and took nearly 10 seconds off the previous record set by Germany's Sarah Wellbrock.
Canada's Summer McIntosh set a world junior record when she beat Ledecky in the 400 free on Friday, and she followed that up by winning the 400IM.
She said that she felt in control throughout the race.
Bailey Andison was third with a time of 4:29.36.
The previous world junior record was set by China's Shiwen Ye in 2012 with a time of 3:23.33
Beatriz Dizotti of Brazil and Laila Oravsky of Canada finished third and fourth in the race.
It's so amazing to be a part of that. The fastest 1,500 was done by me and I was a part of it. It's insane.
Mac Neil bettered her national record in the women's 50-meter butterfly. Beata Nelson won the women's 100 backstroke and Shaine Casas won the men's 200 backstroke.
There was a big roar at Ledecky's finish. After seeing her world-record time, she splashed the water.
Most of the emotion was due to the fact that it hurt a lot. You want to see a good result when something hurts. It was just a happy place.
I was very happy with the result.
She came back to the pool a short time later and took silver in the 200 free in 1:52.31, behind Hong Kong's Siobhan Bernadette Haughey.
Ledecky didn't have a lot of time to prepare for the meet. I wanted to race some swimmers from around the world. Toronto and Indianapolis are on American soil so I had fun with them.
