Katie Taylor
Katie Taylor (right) has now won all 22 of her professional bouts

Taylor retained her titles with a points win against Carabajal.

It was the first women's bout to headline New York's Madison Square Garden and it was fought by Taylor.

She defended against her brave opponent.

Taylor won the fight 100-91, 99-91, 98-92.

"She had everything to gain, I was a bit open at times but just happy to get the victory," said Taylor, who hoped her next fight would be in Dublin, which would be her first fight as a professional.

'We can create a night of boxing Ireland will never forget'

One of the targets of Taylor's career has been to fight in Ireland, where she has fought in England, Wales and the United States.

Do you want 80,000 people to see the fight? It would be the largest event in women's boxing history.

I'm happy to wait a few months for the biggest fight of my career and it would be a dream for me.

Eddie Hearn told the crowd that it was time to go back to Ireland.

Wherever it is, Ireland has to be there. The Irish fans have traveled all over the world and it's time to give them a sporting event they will never forget.

We don't care who it is, it has to be Ireland." We can make a night of boxing Ireland will never forget and no one deserves it more than Taylor.

People were laughing at us when we were here. For others to come down, she has been following the path. She is a legend in the game.

How the Carabajal fight unfolded

Carabajal came to London with a record of 19 wins from 19 bouts but only two of those victories had been inside the distance.

She talked up her chance of causing a shock win and taking the belts back to Argentina with her but Taylor, cheered on by a loud and passionate crowd in London, quickly stamped her authority on the fight.

Taylor, backed by the bookmaker at odds of 1 25 before the contest started, immediately showed her class, speed and power, taking the centre of the ring as Carabajal was caught by jabs and struggled to land anything meaningful in the first of 10 two-minute rounds.

The Argentine made an attacking start at the beginning of the second, but as the round went on she was picked off by overhand lefts and rights from Taylor, who made her hard to hit.

Taylor pinned Carabajal in the corner in the fourth, with the pair trading blows and the Argentine doing well to escape what had looked like a difficult moment.

Carabajal, cut in the fifth, was brave, attacking and fully committed but was starting to take some punishment as Taylor pushed for what would have been her first win inside the distance in nine bouts.

She was happy to wait and not take any unnecessary risks because she knew she had banked the earlier rounds.

Carabajal, cut again around her right eye, had shown great character to still be in there for the final round, but Taylor stayed out of danger before the judges confirmed the win.

She was back at Wembley Arena, where she had stopped Poland's Karina Szmalenberg in the third round of her professional debut, and what a journey it has been for her since then.

This was her 16th successive world title fight and she is a two-weight world champion after moving up a weight to win a WBO belt at light-welterweight in 2019.

With a potential fight at Croke Park coming next summer, another big night is just around the corner.

Undercard - Gill loses European belt; Scotney wins European title

Jordan Gill was beaten by a former two-weight world champion in a fight that doubled up as an eliminator for the IBF world title.

The Englishman's jaw was broken in the seventh, but he still lost to the Spaniard.

Gill was cut and bleeding from his nose after he was caught multiple times in the second round.

Gill was knocked down twice in the third and then floored twice in the fourth before his corner ended the fight.

She became the European super-bantamweight champion in only her sixth fight as a pro.

Scotney dominated the ninth of the 10 rounds as she looked to claim the first knockout of her career, but instead won it on a unanimous decision.

Gary Cully won his 15th fight in 35 seconds against Jaouad Belmehdi.

Cully knocked the Frenchman down with a brutal left hook and Belmehdi beat the count but then fell into the ropes and the referee stopped the fight.

Eddie Hearn thinks Cully will be a future world champion.

Johnny Fisher extended his winning streak to seven with a first-round demolition of Czech fighter Dominik Musil.
