Nolan Arenado will stay in St. Louis as he won't opt out of his contract, according to a source.
Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has five years and $144 million left on his contract. Colorado is paying more than $30 million for the rights to Arenado, who was traded to the Cards before the 2021 season. Arenado will make a base salary of $35 million next season on his contract, which will run through the year 2027.
The contract had two opt-outs, the first of which came after the season in 2022. The Athletic is reporting that Arenado will not use the opt-out to become a free agent.
Arenado hit.293 with 30 home runs, 42 doubles and a.891 OPS. He is expected to finish in the top five in National League Most Valuable Player voting along with teammate Paul Goldschmidt.
Arenado decided to stay because he likes playing in St. Louis so much.
