Russia will suspend its implementation of a UN brokered grain deal that has seen more than 9 million tons of grain exported from Ukranian during the war.

The Russian Defense Ministry cited an alleged Ukrainian drone attack against Russia's Black Sea Fleet ships moored off the coast of occupiedCrimea as the reason for the move. The Ukrainians said that the Russians mishandled their own weapons.

The Russian declaration came a day after the U.N. urged Russia and Ukraine to continue exporting grain. Other countries were urged by the UN to remove obstacles blocking Russian grain andfertilizer exports.

The grain deal brokered by the UN and Turkey helps cushion the effects of the cost-of-living crisis on billions of people, according to the U.N. chief.
