After Musk's acquisition of the social network on Friday, General GM stopped advertising on it. In order to evaluate the direction of the platform under Musk, the company has paused paid advertising on the network.
Dan Flores, a spokesman for GM, said in an email that the company is engaging with the platform to understand its direction. We have paused paid advertising because of a change in the media platform. Customer care interactions will continue on the social networking site.
It is not clear if the decision by GM to pull ads from the social network is related to the company's rivalry withTesla or both. On Thursday, a report from the Wall Street Journal highlighted advertisers' concerns with the future of content moderation on the Musk-owned version of Twitter. Musk tried to assure advertisers that he wouldn't let the site become a "free-for-all hellscape", but he also said that he wanted to create a digital town square where a wide range of beliefs can be debated.
A content moderation council with members who have widely diverse viewpoints will be established by the new owner, and he won't make any major decisions to take down content without the council's approval. After he assumed ownership of the company, Musk immediately fired the policy chief of the company.
GM has doubled down on its efforts to compete with electric vehicle (EV) rivals likeTesla, increasing its investment in electric and self-drive vehicles to $35 billion through 2025.
