According to research published Friday in Science Advances, the heat waves that have resulted from climate change have cost the global economy at least 16 trillion dollars. There are impacts to health and productivity. One of the first studies that quantifies economic losses from global climate change shows that the years since have seen more heat waves.

Most of the United States is affected by a severe national dry spell. Supply chain disruptions caused by the low water levels of the river are estimated to be around $20 billion this year. The ongoing drought is expected to cause lower yields of corn and possibly other crops as well. Food prices will go up even more in this economy.
