In an apparent reference to Pakistan, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday that the counter-terror sanction regime of the United Nations has been effective in putting countries on notice.

Jaishankar said that terrorism was one of the gravest threats to humanity.

The threat of terrorism is growing in Asia and Africa despite the UN's efforts.

He said that the UN Security Council has evolved in the past two decades to combat terrorism.

Jaishankar said that putting those countries on notice that terrorism had become a state-funded enterprise has been very effective.

The 1267 Sanctions Committee Monitoring Reports show that the threat of terrorism is only growing in Asia and Africa.

The ethos of open societies is being used to attack freedom.

He spoke about the use of new technologies by terror groups, saying the internet and social media platforms have turned into potent instruments in the "tool kit of terrorists and militant groups."

He said that they used technology and money to attack freedom, tolerance and progress.

Jaishankar said that the use of drones by terrorist groups and criminal networks is an added concern for governments around the world.

He said that the member states need to pay attention to the possibility of using weaponised drones for terrorist purposes.
