Paul Pelosi secretly called 911 while in front of the intruder and spoke in 'code' to dispatcher to convey what was happening: 'Why are you here? What are you going to do to me?'

According to the San Francisco Police Department, Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, was able to call for help before he was attacked with a hammer.

When police arrived, Pelosi and the attacker were standing in the entryway, each holding a hammer.

According to media reports, Paul Pelosi secretly called the emergency number so that the person who was in his house wouldn't know what was going on.

Sources told the Los Angeles Times that Paul Pelosi told the person he needed to use the bathroom and called the police. According to The Times, Heather Grimes was the one who called the police after hearing Paul Pelosi and the man talking.

CNN got an account from a source with knowledge. John Miller is the outlet's chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst. He said that when she answered no one responded, but she heard a background conversation and felt something was off. She turned the volume up so she could hear what was happening.

Paul Pelosi is trying to tell her why she is here. Do you know what you're going to do to me? Miller said that he could imagine how he was trying to not let the attacker know that they were being listened to.

He said that she wanted a high priority check at the house. According to Miller, when officers arrived, they saw the men struggle over the hammer before the man struck Pelosi with the hammer.

While police didn't confirm details of the call as reported by CNN and the LA Times, the chief did praise her by name for her actions.
