GM temporarily suspends advertising on Twitter after Musk takeover

The company told CNBC that it is suspending its advertising on the social media platform.

The Detroit automaker, a rival to Musk, is using advertising to evaluate the new direction of the micro-blogging site. GM said that it will not pay for advertising on the platform.

We are looking at the direction of the platform under the new owners. We have paused paid advertising due to a change in the media platform. The company said in an email that customer care interactions will continue on the social networking site.

The Detroit company was one of the first to announce billions of dollars in spending to improve their electric vehicle offerings.

Other auto companies, including Ford Motor, did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether they plan to stop using the social media platform. The platform is not going to be changed, according to the electric truck maker.

The future direction of the company has been at the center of the story. Musk said he would restore the account of former President Donald Trump, who was banned over his social media posts. Musk said on Friday that he won't make major content decisions before the council convenes.

In a statement to advertisers this week, Musk said that he couldn't let the site become a "free-for-all hellscape".

Fisker, the CEO of Fisker Inc., deleted his account on the social networking site when it accepted Musk's bid to take it private. Every major automotive brand uses social media to engage with their customers.

In the past, Musk has claimed that he does not pay for traditional advertising for his company.

Instead of rewarding people who run, or are members of, the company's owners' clubs, it rewards them for promoting the company's products, stock and Musk on social networks.

They are often given early access to the company's products and given passes to company events that are limited.

The proposal to pay for advertising to educate the public about the company's vehicles and charging network was rejected by the board.

Historically, we have been able to generate significant media coverage of our company and our products, and we think we will continue to do so. Word of mouth and media coverage have helped us achieve sales without traditional advertising and at low marketing costs.

Marketing, promotional and advertising costs were not reported in the financial statements for the three years.
