You can control all your compatible smart home devices with the help of the Google Home. The easiest way to do this is with the internet of things. These are multi-action shortcut that can be used to control one or more devices and can be used to cause one or more actions to happen automatically.

You can set a routine that will turn off your lights and cameras at 10PM. It's possible to set one up that adjusts the brightness of your lights when the TV is turned on and one that turns the bathroom light on when a motion sensor senses movement. If your doorbell rings after the sun goes down, you can have the porch lights turn on to welcome your visitor.

There are two types of routines: household routines and personal routines The main difference is that Household Routines can be edited and created by any member of your household, and they can't contain personal information such as calendar events Both household and personal routines have the same steps.

There is a preset home and away routine that you can modify. They use location data to determine when everyone is away or when someone returns home and start a routine. You can find more on Home and Away Routines on the internet.

You can get your smart home to do the hard work for you if you set up a Google Home household routine from scratch.

You need the app to set up a household routine. You can use your smart speakers and displays to start your routine once it's ready.

You can open the app on your phone or tablets. There is a purple circle with a sun in it. The plus button is in the bottom right. Pick the household. It's time to name your routine. This is what you can say if you want to start the routine. At least one starter should be added. This is what will prompt your routine. A voice command, a specific time and day of the week, sunrise or sunset, or when a device does something can be used. If you choose more than one starter, you can have a routine that starts on Wednesdays after sunset. Next, I will go into more detail on the starting point. At least one action needs to be added. Actions include turning on or off smart home devices such as lights, adjusting the thermostat, starting your robot vacuum, sending an announcement through your speakers, or playing music. Actions will be covered in a bit. Multiple actions can be added to a routine. A movie time routine could include turning on the tv, dim the lights, lock the door, and adjust the thermostat. Pick which speaker or display you want your Routine to play from. Messages will be sent to your phone if you don't use any devices.

Once your Routine is set up, you can initiate it by voice or by tapping on the play icon in the app. You can change a routine in the app.

There are five main categories of actions that can be added to a routine. By typing in the command you want to run, you can make your own actions. There are several examples from each category.

Adjust Home devices

It's possible to turn on or off devices, start or stop them, or adjust them in a routine. It's possible to turn your cameras on at 11PM or turn your lights on at 8AM. When you select actions, you will have to choose between the smart light, smart plug, and smart camera you have separate from each other.

If you don't want to wake the whole house up with your early morning workout, you can have a routine that adjusts the volume of the smart speaker. It can turn on a television, lock a door, or arm a security system. There are no ways to disarm security systems.

Get info and reminders

Weather forecasts can be included in a routine.

Communicate and announce

You can set a routine to let people know that you have a Nest speaker in your home. I use the phrase "Get out of bed, you sleepy heads" as part of my morning routine.

Adjust assistant volume

The volume at which the assistant will talk to you is set by this. It's nice and loud in the morning but quiet in the evening.

Play and control media

You can play music, read the news, listen to the radio, or audiobook, but you can't have an audiobook. It can be used for a good night's sleep.

When you have your actions in your routine, you can move them around by tapping and holding the two lines next to them. All media plays last by default. Everything will happen at the same time because there is no pause between actions.

Look for improvements

The internet giant is trying to catch up with its routines. For a long time, these types of automations have had the same options for starting. There are more ways to invoke routines on all three platforms. I can't have a routine run when I open my door.

With these new routines, it's now possible to run your smart home with the help of the internet of things. With a new app on the way, we will probably see more improvements sooner than later.
