Sources told Adrian Wojnarowski that the Los Angeles Lakers are going to put Russell Westbrook on the bench for Friday's game against Minnesota.

His status was upgraded to probable on Friday morning after he missed L.A.'s loss to the Denver Nuggets with a left leg injury.

In L.A.'s preseason finale, the Lakers' coach brought the former league Most Valuable Player off the bench so he could have the ball in his hands more often.

The third-longest active stretch in the league behind Chris Paul and LeBron James will be broken by coming off the bench for Oklahoma City.

At the shootaround, the Lakers practiced with a starting five of James, Anthony Davis, Patrick Beverly, Patrick Walker IV and Damian Jones. Karl- Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert are two of the biggest players in the league.

Sources told Wojnarowski that if Davis isn't able to play, he could return to the starting lineup, where he played the first three games of the season.
