Are you looking for a different way to communicate with people? Bluesky Social, a new "decentralized social network" that seeks to regain user data, could be the brainchild of Jack Dorsey.

Bluesky isn't quite here yet, so before you start packing your bags for a future of social media, you need to know that. The public should be able to use the app soon according to a post on the app's website.

There isn't a lot of information about the app at the moment, at least as far as features and an actual release date go. The new "AT Protocol" is an improvement over the ADX Protocol and the underlying tech that will power the app.

The AT Protocol is a new social network. The network is simple, fast, and open.

New Federation

"federated social network" is one of the many words used in the Bluesky announcement. Some of the prime functions of the tech, such as "account portability," "algorithmic choice," and "Interoperation," have yet to be proven.

According to Bluesky, users will be able to move between a number of social platforms using just one high-quality browser, controlling what you see and how much data you give to those platforms while you're at it.

Frenemies

What might Musk think about Dorsey's new project? Thanks to the Musk vs. Twitter court battle, text messages between the pair revealed in court showed Musk claiming to be fine with it.

When asked if Bluesky is meant to compete with other social sites, Dorsey had a clear answer.

The data of the people using it is a competitor to any company trying to own the underlying principles of social media.

It's pretty much every social media platform.

Musk suddenly says he loves ads now that he owns a site that depends on the situation.
