Marriott has made a number of moves in recent weeks. They have given some of their credit cards more valuable free nights, increased annual fees, and launched two new credit cards. I want to share something good with you because most of that is bad. Ivan is a member of the MtM Diamond group.

When it comes to free night cert extensions with Marriott, it has been very YMV. During covid, everything was extended for a few years there. The Marriott representatives began cracking down on extensions as the world opened back up. Ivan and his wife tried a number of times, but were told it wasn't possible.
Since the certificate was about to expire next week, he decided to give it another try. The agent said that Marriott would be willing to extend his free night cert for another year because of the new terms. The certificate will be extended for a year if it's within two weeks of the original date. I don't know if this is a one time thing per certificate, but that is what I would do. I don't know if they will do anything for expired certs. Let us know what they are saying.
The fact that the rep said that it was their new policy makes me believe that it isn't just a runaway rep. Give them a call if you have one that is about to expire. We can see if this is a hard and fast rule if you give us your data points.
If it is actual policy then this is very customer friendly change by Marriott, surprising I know! Maybe it is to distract you from the fact that very soon the certificates will be worth a lot less when prices go fully dynamic. At least you can top them off a bit now though.
